*With Dillian Whyte and Luis Ortiz talking smack towards one another, WBC President Mauricio Sulaiman would welcome a final eliminator to have both men fight for a shot at the title. Whyte began the process by claiming Ortiz wants nothing of the British boxer, but Ortiz has not only welcomed the challenge but also claim he’d fight Whyte on.
*Should Dillian Whyte vs Luis Ortiz take place on British soil, the former would be the obvious A-side and the home fighter. As a result of his home field advantage, it’s likely Whyte will get a.

*By Scott Gilfoid: Newly crowned British heavyweight champion Dillian Whyte (19-1, 15 KOs) is volunteering to face the talented #1 WBA heavyweight contender Luis “King Kong” Ortiz (25-0, 22 KOs).
BoxingScene.com has been advised that the World Boxing Council has ordered heavyweights Luis Ortiz and Dillian Whyte to take part in a WBC final eliminator.
The winner would become the mandatory challenger to WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder (40-0, 39 KOs).
Wilder is scheduled to return in the coming, potentially in a voluntary defense against Dominic Breazeale - if a deal is not reached for unification with IBF, IBO, WBA, WBO champion Anthony Joshua.
By Jim Dower: Dillian Whyte (24-1, 17 KOs) has the green light from the World Boxing Council president Mauricio Sulaiman to face former heavyweight world title challenger Luis ‘King Kong’ Ortiz. Draftkings withdrawal options.
Whyte (23-1, 17 KOs) was in action last month, when he pulled off a sensational one-punch knockout of former WBA champion Lucas Browne in the seventh round of their HBO televised bout from the O2 Arena in London.
He is scheduled to see action in July, against an opponent to be determined.
Ortiz (28-1, 24 KOs) suffered his first career defeat last month, in a very exciting fight with Wilder at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.
He was down earlier in the fight, but came back to get Wilder in serious trouble at the end of the seventh round - and many felt Wilder was on the verge of being stopped. But Wilder came back to score two knockdowns of his own for a stoppage victory in the tenth round.
There is a purse bid set for May 25th in Mexico City - and if the contest heads to a purse bid the split will be 50-50.
Both fighters have had their issues with PED infractions in the past.
Whyte was suspended for two years after using a post-workout energy drink that he purchased from a nutrition shop, and the drink happened to contain a banned substance.
Ortiz was suspended for nine months after testing positive for a banned steroid in the aftermath of his first round knockout of Lateef Kayode in 2014. He was also placed on a temporary suspension late last year after failing a random drug test - but was ultimately cleared when the substances in question were attributed to his prescribed medication for high blood pressure.
Earlier this week, heavyweight contender Luis Ortiz made it clear that he was very willing to get in the ring with Dillian Whyte in the coming months. He’s open to traveling over to the UK for the fight.
Whyte has been out of the ring since August, when he was knocked out in brutal fashion by Alexander Povetkin.
Since that fight, Whyte has been trying to secure a concrete date for a rematch - with November 21 and January 30 being pushed back as Povetkin recovers from COVID-19.
’If we could make the Dillian Whyte fight, I think that would be a great stepping stone, especially in the UK market,’ said Jimenez to Sky Sports.Dillian Whyte Boxer
’Dillian Whyte is no walkover, he’s no stepping stone, but if that fight were to happen and Luis could come out victorious, I think we do deserve a Joshua fight.’
Ortiz’s manager, Jay Jimenez, believes Whyte would be the perfect fight to lead the Cuban heavyweight to a showdown with IBF, IBO, WBA, WBO world champion Anthony Joshua.
Ortiz was in position for a fight with Joshua in June of 2019. The two sides were unable to reach a financial agreement.
When Ortiz fell out of the picture, then Andy Ruiz quickly jumped on the opportunity - and pulled off a massive upset when he stopped Joshua in seven rounds at Madison Square Garden in New York City.
Jimenez is not overly confident Ortiz would have actually received the fight.Luis Ortiz Vs Dillian Whyte
’I think it would have [been a victory for Ortiz], because I don’t think Joshua was ready for a southpaw. He couldn’t get ready for a southpaw in a month’s time. We wanted the fight. I don’t think Eddie [Hearn] really would have gave us the fight anyway. It wasn’t a smart decision to step into a southpaw in a month. Not a southpaw like Luis. A bigger, stronger southpaw,’ Jimenez said.Dillian Whyte Weight
’No regrets, it happened, and the right guy won that day, because maybe if it was someone else, he wouldn’t have beaten Joshua. Joshua is just so skilled, so big. No regrets, hopefully we get another shot.’
