TOUR DE FRANCE STAGE 6 BETTING PREVIEW
At 216 kilometres, the 6th stage is among the longest stages in the 2017 Tour de France. The riders travel down from Vesoul to Troyes, where the race should boil down to a bunch sprint since riding through the Plateau de Langres, and passing through Colombeyles-Deux-Églises, the chase of the escapees should be perfectly planned.
We already had two bunch sprint so far. In the 2nd stage Marcel Kittel outsprinted Arnaud Démare and André Greipel. The second sprint, in stage 4, was won by Arnaud Démare ahead of Kristoff and Greipel as Peter Sagan was disqualified because of elbowing Mark Cavendish.
That crash forced Mark Cavendish to withdraw from the race with a broken shoulder, so we have two contenders less this time. Plus, the knock-on effect had also taken down compatriot Ben Swift (UAE-Emirates) and Trek-Segafredo’s John Degenkolb. Both will continue in the race but do so with injuries sustained in the crash.
Marcel Kittel is the odds-on favourite to win in Troyes as his lead out is probably the best and his legs are powerful as usual. The german won Stage 2 but was caught out in the sprint on stage 4 and never featured in the push for the line. Time for a revenge?
The current French National Champion Arnaud Démare is another rider entering this stage high on confidence after the stage 4 success. He was able to stay in front of the real action in the sprint and won fairly comfortably in the end.
Andre Greipel grabbed another stage podium spot with 3rd on the stage (he was 4th before Sagan was disqualified). He has not shown the speed to beat Kittel or Demare but his lead out is able to leave him in good position for the last 200m of the race.
Nacer Bouhanni, who will feel unjustly treated having been cut across by rival Arnaud Démare, managed a 4th place finish on stage 4 – emerging from the chaos at the end and could be a strong contender while Dylan Groenewegen has not featured in the sprints since stage 2 and looked a bit unexperienced for a race such as the Tour De France.
Edwald Boasson Hagen should be tired after his big effort on Wednesday as the Norwegian was in the breakaway until few kilometers from ’La Planche des Belle Filles’ finish line .
Other riders to look out for a podium finish include Ben Swift, Alexander Kristoff and Michael Matthews while we expect a top 10 finish for riders such as Adrian Petit, Sonny Colbrelli and Dan McLay.
